BigByte Presents:PBL

Preparing our students for an unknown future full of new kinds of challenges is essential.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) gives students opportunities to learn-by-doing and to apply all their knowledge across different subjects toward a real-life situation or question.

Fundamental skills such as reading, writing and math are still important, but together with teamwork, problem-solving skills, creativity, critical thinking and communication skills, child is encouraged to become an independent worker and a lifelong learner.

That is why at BigByte Junior we start with student-driven, educator-guided projects right from our PreK class where they get to explore topics and activities that interest them, make personal choices and practice working together in small groups.

It is the process throughout the project, not only the final product, that is celebrated for its explorations, revelations and discoveries.

Our Fall 2020 Final Projects highlights included: exploring the effect of different popular drinks on hard-boiled eggs, preparing and cooking favorite dishes together, making 3D models of extreme weather and finding answers to the questions that keep a 3 year old up at night.

Thought-provoking questions! Deeper understandings of everyday! Appreciation & awareness of natural wonders! (PreK)

Of most significance is seeing how confidently and proudly the students talk about their projects afterwards - they literally glow and beam from within and that reaction to self-determined learning will always be the most essential educational goal.
